BOOK AN APPOINTMENT
We are excited to meet you on your first visit. When you come into our office for the first time, we will help you gain more knowledge about the specific treatment you need while also helping you familiarize yourself with our office. We understand that each patient has different orthodontic treatment needs but we promise to give you the quality personal attention you deserve.

During your first visit to our office, we will do a quick examination and have a discussion with you regarding the nature of your problem and which treatment option would best fit your needs. It will be at this point that we will determine if it is a proper time to begin treatment or not. After your first visit, we will mail you and your dentist a written summary of the findings and a detailed plan that outlines your treatment goals and estimated fees.

We have many financing options available to accommodate your needs, and we will review these with you. We will also review your insurance policy to help maximize your benefits and file your claims.

Braces for Adults: A surprising percentage of our patients are adults. Health, happiness and self-esteem are vitally important to adults. No patient is “too old” to wear braces!

Early Age Orthodontics: Phase I treatment, if necessary, is usually initiated on children between the ages of 7 and 10 and lasts about 12 months. The primary objective of Phase I treatment is to address dental concerns, that if left untreated may result in more extensive full treatment in the future.

What should I do in case of an orthodontic emergency?

If you have an orthodontic emergency, we ask that you contact our office right away. We will help guide you through the issue, and may recommend you come in for an appointment. Here are some common orthodontic emergencies:

Sore teeth – It is expected that the teeth will be sore for the first few days. There are now new pressures and forces being applied to the teeth that they have never felt before. If the teeth are sore initially, it is important to remember that it will not last. Things will settle down within a few days. Eating or drinking cool foods or liquids will help relieve some of the pressure from the wire.

Irritations – Now that the braces are on, it will take your mouth, lips and cheeks a few days to get used to them. The smooth surface of the teeth has been replaced by the braces, so it is not uncommon for a “sore spot” to develop. If you notice that the braces feel particularly scratchy in one area or another, simply use the wax provided to help smooth out the rough spot until the cheeks and lips toughen up.

Loose Bracket – If the main wire or a bracket comes loose, a general rule is if it is not bothering you or causing you any discomfort, and your appointment is coming up (within three weeks or so), it is not a problem to wait for your next appointment to have a repair done . Please still call us to inform us that something needs fixing. However, if something breaks and you are in a situation where you must cut the wire or slide a bracket off the wire, you may use clean fingernail clippers. Please give us a call and we will schedule a repair appointment.

Lost Separator – It may have fallen out because it has made the space required; however, the space will close if a separator is not kept in place. Try to replace the separator with the extra separators we provided you in the small envelope. If you are unsuccessful please give our office a call and we will schedule an appointment to replace it.

How do I care for my teeth with braces?

Once your braces are in place, it is very important to maintain good oral hygiene practices.

The brackets and wires make it easier for food particles to become trapped, so it is important to carefully brush and floss after every meal.

The accumulation of food over time can lead to plaque and bacteria build up, which over time will cause tooth decay and gum disease. Ask our team if you have any further questions about oral hygiene.
